The difference between a liftgate and a tailgate is that a liftgate is a mechanical device that raises and lowers during loading and unloading of heavy cargo. A tailgate is a hinging board or hatch at the back of a vehicle that can lower for loading and unloading.
What is a power liftgate?
A power liftgate is a motorized hatch that is opened and closed electronically. This system can be activated by pressing a button on the inside of the car, key fob, or the hatch. Some iterations may need the vehicle to be unlocked using the key fob before you are able to activate the hatch.
